AINIA / Soluciones y servicios / Sustainability / Obtaining high added-value compounds from by-products or waste
- Sustainability
Obtaining value-added compounds
Obtaining high added-value compounds from plants, biomass or organic waste through extraction technologies or bioprocesses.
Achieving maximum benefit and greater market differentiation when developing a new ingredient
Given the expected population growth and the limitation of natural resources, continuing with current linear business and consumption models leads to an unsustainable future. Moving towards circular models that maximise the use of natural resources is essential.
The obtaining or generation of value-added compounds is one of the ways to create value for companies and provide market differentiation.
At AINIA, we add value
- Obtaining market-differentiating compounds
- Valorisation of low-cost raw materials
- Techno-economic feasibility
- Sustainable and low environmental impact solutions
- Industrial production

We obtain and generate value-added compounds for applications in the food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical sectors in an efficient and sustainable way.
Supercritical and subcritical CO2 extraction technology enables the production of high-quality value-added compounds free from solvent traces, while remaining compatible with compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), particularly required in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. Essential oils, pigments, aromas and antioxidants are some examples.
On the other hand, biotechnology enables the generation of value-added compounds through the use of microorganisms and suitable cultivation conditions. Single Cell Proteins (SCP), building blocks, biomaterials, cosmetic ingredients and biofuels are some examples.
The generation of new biomass is an innovative way to obtain compounds of interest from industrial waste or by-products. Through the cultivation of microalgae or lemna, biomass can be obtained from which compounds such as colourants, omega-3 fatty acids or polysaccharides can be extracted.
We provide end-to-end and industrial production solutions while always considering techno-economic feasibility.
