Residues of Substances for Veterinary Use
We monitor the presence of residues of these substances in products of animal origin (meat, meat products, fish and seafood products, etc.).
Ensure the food safety and legal compliance of your products
The presence of residues of pharmacologically active substances and other substances for veterinary use in food is regulated both internationally (Codex Alimentarius) and at European level (through different Directives and Regulations), with specific legislation also existing for other non-EU countries.
For companies in the meat sector, seafood companies (especially aquaculture products), as well as those dealing with other animal-origin products such as honey, eggs or egg products, our services enable them to verify that their products comply with regulatory or voluntary requirements in this area.
Identifying the presence of this type of substance may also serve a technological purpose, as they may interfere chemically or biologically with production processes (e.g. milk fermentation or maturation processes).
In the case of authorities responsible for the official control of this type of product, it is especially important to monitor these residues both in domestically produced products and in imported or export-destined products. In Spain, the National Residue Monitoring Plan (PNIR) is the control instrument for the presence of medicinal residues and their metabolites in live animals and their products.
At AINIA, we add value
- Accredited for a large number of substances (antibiotics, anthelmintics, coccidiostats, hormones and corticosteroids).
- Multiple matrices included within the relevant scope, with the most suitable targets in each case (meat products, fishery products, honey, liver, muscle, fat, urine).
- Analytical confirmation techniques using liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry detection (LC-MS/MS), in accordance with Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/808 and Decision 2002/657/EC.
- Designated as an official control laboratory for PNIR plan substances in more than 75 analyte/target matrix combinations.
- Accredited under the Accreditation Programme “Drug residue testing for the control of organic production: Substances for veterinary use (Tetracyclines, Sulfonamides, Quinolones, Hormones and Corticosteroids)”.
- Fast response times, with turnaround adapted to our clients’ needs.
- Advice on optimising control plans and interpreting results.
