Biogas plant viability study
Comprehensive assessment. Technical, economic and environmental factors in the stages of transforming organic substrates into useful bioenergy
Technical and economic viability is key to the development of profitable and sustainable biogas projects
Consumer society is constantly evolving and consumer needs are changing.
Specifically, it is necessary to analyse the different techno-economic factors that affect the viability of a biogas and/or biomethane project in order to define an appropriate design and a profitable business model.
- Initial diagnosis assessing the energy, environmental, logistical, agricultural, legislative and other aspects that influence the project.
- Study of the availability and characteristics of agro-industrial waste for co-digestion.
- Where appropriate, tests to determine the maximum biogas production potential of the most relevant waste or waste mixtures.
- Where appropriate, simulation of co-digestion processes at pilot scale with selected mixtures: assessment of the optimum organic load, effect of pretreatments, quality of the biogas and digestate, etc. Determination of the optimum mixture to maximise biogas production.
- Where appropriate, assessment of digestate quality and crop application tests.
- Preparation of a report describing the raw materials to be used, the technical characteristics and basic operation of the biogas plant, the intended use of the biogas, investment and operating costs, energy, environmental and economic balances, as well as other relevant elements.
At AINIA, we add value
-
Multidisciplinary study addressing the analysis of the different factors considered for the valorisation of the available organic waste/by-products, such as technology, guarantee of waste supply, agronomic use of the digestate, etc.
- Detection of risks in the biogas production process through a diagnosis based on a methodology developed from practical knowledge of facilities, experimentation, market knowledge and previous projects in the field.
- Extensive knowledge of the digestion process, based on the experience and ongoing training of technical experts in the field.
- Laboratory and experimental facilities that enable the required level of detail for the viability study to be reached according to the customer’s needs: from preliminary studies to process simulation studies through tests in pilot digesters, in order to define the basic design of a biogas plant.
- Compliance with reference standards, such as the VDI4630 standard, in infrastructures prepared for determining biomethanisation potential, enabling the analysis of the customer’s specific organic waste and allowing the viability study to be based on data adapted to the target waste on which the biogas plant project will be based.
Biogas plant viability study
Our studies include a comprehensive assessment of the technical, economic and environmental factors involved in each stage of transforming organic substrates into useful bioenergy.
We offer a comprehensive and impartial view of the most suitable technologies, processes and project development options in each case. Through our techno-economic viability studies, we assess the specific needs of each customer and each plant, identifying efficient, profitable and sustainable solutions.
