Fluid Bed Coating/Granulation
Fluid bed technology
Fluid bed is a technology in which an airflow suspends (fluidises) solid particles, enabling granulation, coating or drying through the controlled spraying of solutions, dispersions or melts onto the particle bed.
What market challenges does it address?
- Need to coat particles to mask taste/odour/colour
- Protection against moisture/oxidation or modulation of release
- Flowability, segregation or dust issues in fine ingredients: enables particle size increase through agglomeration
Applications
-
Functional coating (hydrophobic/hydrophilic)
Functional coating (hydrophobic/hydrophilic) for moisture control and sustained release
- Granulation of fine powders to improve flowability
AINIA’s competitive advantages
- Design of coating formulations: food/cosmetic polymers, biopolymers, waxes, hybrid systems
- Full characterisation: size and distribution (laser), morphology (microscopy), moisture/water activity, flowability, dissolution/release
- Scale-up from laboratory to pilot scale, with transfer of critical parameters (flow rates, ΔT, atomisation, bed pattern)
-
Integration with other AINIA technologies (spray drying/chilling, SC-CO₂, coacervation) for multimodal solutions
