TOBEREAL

Empowering bioeconomy projects by deploying Technical, Business, Regulatory and Social assistance services
11 June, 2024

Objective

ToBeReaL aims to deepen knowledge of the challenges and opportunities of the bioeconomy, raising awareness among policymakers, companies, sector organisations and investors alike. Through this effort, ToBeReaL seeks to amplify its impact by fostering collaboration between research, innovation, funding sources and private investment, with the aim of increasing competitiveness in the bioeconomy and bio-based sectors. By strategically aligning these elements, ToBeReaL is committed to catalysing bioeconomy projects at different levels, thereby significantly expanding the reach and influence of the EU’s sustainable bioeconomy.

Activities

  1. Identify and map future needs, barriers and enablers in order to formulate strategies aimed at increasing the competitiveness of new bioeconomy projects across all EU regions and facilitating the transition from a fossil fuel-based economy to a biotechnology-based economy.
  2. Provide broad and long-lasting support to bioeconomy projects across four verticals: Technical (T), Business and Financial (B), Regulatory and Legal (R), and Social (S) for at least 5 years, addressing the readiness levels (RLs) that hinder their viability and scalability.
  3. Anchor the ToBeReaL community of bioeconomy stakeholders — primary producers, SMEs, policymakers, investors and technology providers — across all areas of bio-based technologies, solutions and products with the selected project.
  4. Promote the long-term growth of projects by actively ensuring their progression towards flagship status, with a particular focus on regions where the bioeconomy is currently underdeveloped.
  5. Fuel the bioeconomy through the development of partnerships with related ToBeReaL projects, other initiatives and relevant stakeholders.
