Objective
The overall objective of the project is to research and develop potential ingredients and/or bioactive compounds for cosmetic and personal hygiene products against pathogens that appear in the oral microbiota, causing dental plaque colonisation and associated with the appearance of bacteria on the tooth surface and in saliva, which can lead to cavities and tooth deterioration.
The application of these compounds is multisectoral, as they are intended to be incorporated into mouthwashes, the cosmetics sector and as additives in hygiene products to reduce the use of antibiotics in health and wellness products.
Activities
- Development of an in vitro oral microbiota model
- Isolation of phages with lytic activity against oral pathogens
- Generation of a recombinant microorganism for the production of an enzybiotic with lytic capacity against cavity-causing pathogens
- Development of a complex “artificial mouth” system to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of a newly created endolysin.
- Legal advisory services on antimicrobial compounds (endolysins) that eliminate the pathogens causing dental plaque and their oral use.
- Dissemination and communication
- Transfer and promotion of results
- Management and coordination
