CDTI-OPTIPROT

Omics technology network for the innovation of optimal protein combinations for consumers
26 March, 2024

Objective

OPTIPROT is a scientific and technological support network for business innovation in the field of protein use in the food of the future.

The overall objective of the OPTIPROT Network is to increase knowledge and capabilities in order to provide the food industry with tools that facilitate the use of new protein sources for the development of healthy foods and ingredients. Specifically, it aims to promote the application of omics technologies to obtain and validate the combined use of different protein sources in the creation of different healthy foods, as a differentiating and trend-setting element in the food of the future.

Strategic objectives

  • Develop a plan to strengthen human resources and consolidate scientific and technical capabilities in order to become the leading private R&D infrastructure in the application of omics technologies to the use of different protein sources.
  • Design the strategy to promote a paradigm shift in the food industry in the way foods with health properties are designed, incorporating different protein sources in coexistence.
  • Optimise quality and business technology transfer processes for applied omics technologies, in order to increase the permeability of the cluster’s impact on business competitiveness.

OPTIPROT is structured around four axes: one main capacity-building axis and three support axes. The technological capacity-building axis is structured into four main areas into which the optimisation processes for the food of the future, based on protein coexistence, can be divided:

  1. Technological Capacity-Building Axis
    • FUNCTIONALITY AND HEALTH Area
    • ECOPROCESS Area
    • CONSUMER AND SOCIETY Area
    • NUTRITION OF THE FUTURE Area
  2. Resources Axis:
    • Pre-doctoral, postdoctoral and technical staff training
    • Attraction of national talent
    • Attraction of international talent
  3. Internationalisation Axis:
    • Mobilisation of companies in international projects
    • Participation in EU or EEA FPs
    • International collaborations and networks
    • Participation in international societies and forums
  4. Technology Transfer, Exploitation and Dissemination of Results Axis:
    • Technology transfer and promotion of business investment
    • Forms of industrial and intellectual property protection
    • Creation of Spin-off
    • Dissemination of the cluster’s activities
