Reducing the carbon footprint and advancing towards a circular economy are the objectives that have guided the development of the COMBOI project, driven by AINIA with the support of the Valencian Institute for Business Competitiveness (IVACE) and FEDER funds. The project has demonstrated that it is possible to convert greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide (CO?) and methane into high-value industrial bioproducts, opening new opportunities for sustainability.
Among the main advances of the project is the development of different pathways for the integral valorisation of CO? and methane into high-value industrial biobased products, such as bioplastics (PHAs) and microbial proteins. COMBOI has also developed an advanced CO? capture technology based on synthetic zeolites, capable of recovering this gas from low-concentration streams, optimising its use and reducing emissions.
These results confirm the potential of biotechnology to convert gaseous waste into valuable resources, promoting a more sustainable and competitive industrial model.
The COMBOI project has received support from IVACE and has been funded by the European Union through the FEDER Comunitat Valenciana 2021-2027 Programme.
