Objective
The general objective of PHARMANOVA is to develop advanced technological tools and solutions for the search and development of targeted therapies based on natural biomolecules of plant and microbiological origin, enabling the design of innovative strategies to prevent and treat inflammatory processes associated with diseases of the colonic mucosa and colorectal cancer.
Activities
- Development of screening platforms for potentially therapeutic use in mammalian cells
- Development of screening platforms for potentially therapeutic compounds of microbial origin.
- Research into supercritical CO2 fractionation strategies to obtain substances with potential for therapeutic applications.
- Study of encapsulation strategies for therapeutic molecules
- Development of advanced tissue tools for the study of new therapies
- Transfer of results
- Dissemination and communication
Results
- Development of a screening tool based on obtaining a genetically modified mammalian cell line equipped with a reporter system for a target or biomarker of inflammatory processes associated with the colonic mucosa.
- Development of a protocol for strain growth using miniaturised systems and systems for phenotypic screening of molecules.
- Development of an untargeted metabolomics method based on LC-HRMS/MS that enables the relative identification and quantification of metabolites produced by various bacterial strains, providing a detailed understanding of the metabolic profiles of the strains studied.
- Fractionation and encapsulation technologies for targeted therapies. Relevant advances in the development of fractionation processes using supercritical CO₂, aimed at obtaining fractions enriched in biomolecules with therapeutic potential from natural sources.
- Advanced coating and encapsulation system aimed at protecting and stabilising butyric acid.
- Development of an advanced gastrointestinal system model. An advanced diagnostic cellular system has been developed that simulates colon inflammation using 3D organ-on-chip technology and combining cell types.
- Development of a label-free proteomics method, enabling the identification of differentially expressed proteins in response to treatment, based on LC-HRMS/MS in combination with data processing using MaxQuant and Perseus.
