Study to determine the suitability of materials for contact with food and other products

Access the document that allows you to guarantee compliance of your material’s suitability for contact with food or other products.

Materials in contact with food and other products for personal use (pharmaceuticals, cosmetics…) must comply with strict regulations depending on the type of material and the market where they will be commercialised. Both companies that manufacture these consumer products, as well as manufacturers, processors and importers of materials in contact with them, must ensure their safety for consumers, guaranteeing that there are no migrations from the packaging that could affect their health.

Through suitability compliance studies of materials for contact with food or other products, we verify whether the packaging material under study is suitable for contact with the intended products from a chemical standpoint.

In order to address this study, Framework Regulation (EU) No 1935/2004 is considered as the legal basis, along with specific measures (e.g. Regulation (EU) No 10/2011 for plastic materials, RD 891/2006 for ceramics, RD 847/2011 for polymeric materials) or other documents (recommendations, national legislation from other Member States) that allow the establishment of suitability for contact with food.

At AINIA, we add value

  • Overall migration in aqueous simulants (ethanol 10%, 20% and 50%, acetic acid 3%)
  • Overall migration in fatty simulant (vegetable oil)
  • Migración global en simulantes sustitutivos al graso: isooctano y etanol 95%)
  • Specific migration of primary aromatic amines
  • Specific migration of formaldehyde
  • Migración específica de elementos (Anexo II del Reg. 10/2011): Ba, Co, Cu, Fe, Li, Mn, Zn, Al, Ni, Sb, As, Cd, Cr, Pb, Hg, La, Eu, Gd, Tb)
