DANA Webinar and Manual for the food industry
The facilities of food industries located in the areas affected by the floods caused by the DANA on 29 October suffered extensive damage, as did those of other sectors. However, as these are establishments that produce and handle food, in addition to the issues common to other industries, they face two major challenges related to food safety:
- Determining the hygienic and sanitary status of the goods that remained on the premises when the floods occurred, and their suitability for consumption or for processing as ingredients in the case of raw materials.
- Restarting production lines under appropriate hygienic conditions for facilities and equipment, so that the food safety of the products ultimately placed on the market can be guaranteed.
Recommendation manual (Part 1)
In this first part of the manual, you will find information to help you address a major food safety challenge: the hygienic and sanitary status of goods.
LEGAL FRAMEWORK
- Responsibilities
- Determination of the hygienic and sanitary status of raw materials or products
- General humidity and temperature conditions.
- Contamination through contact with floodwaters, sludge or other materials carried by the flood.
- Environmental contamination.
Packaging. - Frozen or chilled products.
- Packaging or packed units.
- Means for assessing the hygienic and sanitary status of raw materials or products

WEBINAR Emerging Risks: the 10 emerging risks we will face in the coming years
Anticipating the future is always a risky exercise, but we undoubtedly have elements that allow us to identify food hazards emerging strongly enough to predict that they will occupy us in the near future. Based on our work in identifying emerging food safety risks, we will review the emerging risks that can be inferred as having the highest likely impact in the coming years. Risks such as the increasing incidence of aflatoxins, the emergence and development of antimicrobial resistance, or the presence of microplastics in food are examples of these new risks.
Don’t miss this webinar because we will show you how to:
- Learn about the 10 most important emerging risks identified in recent years
- Understand the causes behind their emergence
- Identify their impact on human health and the environment
- Learn guidelines for mitigating and minimising their impact on our products
- Manage food safety proactively and preventively within our organisations by understanding the future risks we may face
- Discover SEALI, AINIA’s Food Safety Hub, the meeting point for companies most committed to food safety

For known risks, we can implement measures to minimise them, either by acting to prevent their occurrence or through control plans that enable us to identify them and act in ways that protect consumers. But what happens with unknown or unexpected risks? We have tools to identify food hazards that are emerging strongly enough to suggest they will become highly relevant in the near future.
In this ebook, we have compiled the 10 emerging food safety risks that will have the greatest impact in the coming years.
Download it and stay ahead.

Conference Climate Change Solutions: decarbonisation
We are currently living in a context of ecological transition towards an economy detached from fossil energy sources. In this context, achieving industrial decarbonisation processes that progressively reduce carbon emissions into the atmosphere is essential. To continue advancing emission reduction technologies, it is necessary to create meeting spaces that connect researchers and professionals capable of providing solutions to the challenges companies are facing.
The conference “Climate Change Solutions: decarbonisation”, held last 15 June at AINIA, addressed the needs of different productive sectors through technological solutions and knowledge generation, fostering synergies between public and private entities.

Webinar: Sweetener consumption and health risks
Recently, the World Health Organization (WHO) published guidelines regarding the consumption of sweetener additives, suggesting that sweeteners should not be used as a means to achieve weight control or reduce the risk of non-communicable diseases (type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, adult mortality, etc.).
As happened with the WHO’s 2015 guidelines on sugar intake for adults and children, the new guidelines for sweetener additives will be used to manage and reduce consumption through the development of new policies and public health programmes.
In this webinar, we aim to share knowledge by providing an overall view of the scientific basis behind risk assessment related to the intake of sweetener additives, the expected legislative evolution and its impact on the agri-food sector and consumers.

Video II Digital Transformation Meeting in the Agri-food Industry
Digital Transformation is becoming increasingly widespread in the agri-food industry, yet it continues to raise questions about how to fully leverage its potential. The speed of technological change, such as artificial intelligence, the management of large volumes of data or the application of photonic technologies to obtain previously unseen information, together with the acceleration of changes in the competitive and market environment of the food and beverage sector, raises new questions and creates new challenges.
We organised this II Digital Transformation Meeting with the aim of bringing together in one space presentations from experts in the sector and technology, business-focused debates, networking and knowledge-sharing opportunities, as well as demonstrations featuring the latest technologies.

Video of the Zero Waste Conference: obligations and opportunities under the new food waste law
Between 30% and 50% of edible food produced in the EU is never consumed. Every year, 89 million tonnes (179 kilos per inhabitant) of food losses and waste are generated, not including agricultural waste produced during farming or discarded fish thrown back into the sea. Wasted food generates 170 million tonnes of CO₂ equivalent annually, accounting for 17% of the EU’s direct greenhouse gas emissions. Producing the 30% of food that remains unconsumed requires 50% more water resources for irrigation.
Spain is the seventh European country that wastes the most food, with 7.7 million tonnes per year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Environment. This results in high economic costs, resource losses and environmental impact throughout the entire supply chain.
Last February, we held a conference at AINIA to explain to food sector stakeholders the implications of the new legislative framework for their organisations, including practical cases, new technologies in this field, and more. If you were unable to attend the event, you can now watch the full video through the link.
