consumers introduced mandatory nutritional labelling for most processed foods. The components that must be declared are: energy value, fat, saturated fat, carbohydrates, sugars, protein and salt. This mandatory nutritional information may be voluntarily supplemented with values for other nutrients such as mono- and polyunsaturated fatty acids, polyols, starch, dietary fibre, vitamins or minerals.<br\/>  <\/p><p>Information on the nutritional characteristics of a food is currently <span style=\"color: #ff763f;\">an essential element in consumers\u2019 purchasing decisions<\/span>, as it allows them\u2014particularly those with specific dietary needs\u2014to choose the product that best meets their requirements.<br\/><\/p><p>For this reason, food manufacturers and distributors must verify the product\u2019s commercial and nutritional quality parameters before placing it on the
